"Ow-ie"

My poor sweet Sienna was interrupted from her usual patio activities when a not so nice bee sneaked up under her foot last night! At night! Yeah. She was whining and starting to cry-whine. This had been an all day occurrence already, so I was thinking "hush child!" Thankfully, Stephen is such a good dad and gave me a break going over to see what was wrong. She started saying "Ow-E" pointing to her foot. She totally stepped on the bee. So I pulled out the stinger and we tried to ice it. She didn't like that so much, so we resorted to Baking Soda-mixed-with-H2O-paste. Worked like a charm! I felt so bad that I was actually wishing she would be quiet when she was in pain!!
About a half hour later she konked out on daddy's lap while watching "Cars", which, really....NEVER happens. She must've needed that pretty bad. We are also happy to report that for her first bee sting, there were NO allergic reactions! Hooray! For some reason I am pretty sure one of my kids will have a horrible bee sting reaction, so I have Epi-Pen Jr. in our little first aid kit, just in case (yes, I'm totally a "just-in-case-er").

wow, she must've been tired b/c that position looks really uncomfortable! ha ha. Lots of injuries lately for those Bakers... might as well just wrap yourselves in bubble wrap. Wait, then the epi-pen won't get through.

What a big girl to tell Mommy and Daddy where her bee sting was! And I am so happy to hear that she did not have a reaction! And you can never be too prepared when you have kids! Go Brooke! Way to be a great mommy!

I love the last pic of her knocked out. It is so cute-but poor girly that must of hurt. I am going to have to go buy an epi-pen now that I think of it (thanks Brooke) because I am just waiting for the day Prest gets bit. He loves bees and bugs and will get super close to them when he sees them on flowers or anywhere. Scary!!! This is random but...By the way how is that toilet training book?

I hate bees!!! Next time she gets stung, give her some benadryl to help with itching and swelling. I hope she's feeling better.

allergies develop after an initial exposure. in a sentence, any allergy is an exaggerated response to a repeat antigen exposure. more specifically, upon repeat exposure the body recognizes the antigen again, e.g. bee venom, then overresponds by releasing too much histamine, causing capillaries to swell and leak out fluid into the tissue. this occurs in a spectrum of response and time, from hives to airway swelling to complete vascular collapse. complete vascular collapse is very rare but i've seen several cases of airway swelling, usually from peanut allergy. they almost always respond nicely to epinephrine i.m.

Ahhh, that is so sad, but so cute by the last picture. Where do you get the epi pens. That is such a good idea!
