If you've never gone to Balboa Park during "December Nights", it's time to go. Such a fun and artistic way to feel the holiday spirit in your own hometown. This was a blast! We knew Sienna wouldn't take well to Santa Claus (as seen below) very well, but we knew it was priceless and needful to have that experience. (right?) (She's pointing to "daddy" whom she desperately wanted)
Despite the cold and windy-ness it was perfect. They had lights up all over each building, stages with performances by Cirque D Soleil and others, DELICIOUS AUTHENTIC foods from each of the "houses" on the west side of the park. Every museum was free too! We ate food from the houses of Pakistan and Puerto Rico. The Pakistanian food was basically a pita with charred chicken, pickles and garlic sauce, nothing to brag about. The Puero Rican food was SO good...pastellito de carne (Meat pie basically) and beans and rice. Not to mention the awesome happiness that the strawberries and cream funnel cake brought me (not my hips). Loved it. I'll go again just for the food.
In the backround above is the Organ Pavilion where endless performances of all sorts of music played. I liked the men's quartet...gotta love men's harmony!Tiffany doing diaper-duty on the sidewalk, where we also dined. Rachel was a champ as were Sienna and Chloe considering how cold it was.
And boy were we relieved when the only time it rained while we were there, we happened to be in the Museum of Art. So lucky! All in all, it was a perfect family outing for Christmas cheer. Now we will become hermits as Stephen studies for his finals next week! (What's with Sienna's face huh? =) )

Looks like a blast! I've never been there. Thanks for the tip...I'll have to take the fam. Good luck w/finals week. Oh...sweet memories.
Sienna is so pricelss! Such a cute little girl. I've been just once to December nights a way long time ago. We can't go this year, but will have to next year!
Thanks for the idea! We'll have to go next year. You are just the 'cool cat' mom taking your kids to all these great SD destinations! Know of any street/area that is decked out with lights? We used to visit a place we called 'candy cane lane' in the San Fernando Valley where cars would drive up and down and see the festive lights year after year---I need a place like that in SD and you seem to know the cool places to be and things to see!!! Your girls are soooo darling!
Looks like fun was had by all, Food, music and Santa! Love the Santa picture! Sienna will love it when she's older!
Brooke, your hair is getting so long- you look like one hot mama! :)
SO fun! Reading about all the fun places you take your girls makes me wish I still lived in San Diego so we could go with you! And that cracks me up that Sienna cried on Santa's lap. Kirsten would freak out, I'm sure!
We were going to go this year, but didn't make it ... arg. BTW, you are way too cute. You look awesome in all your pics!! I love your Christmas card, too.
