appling

today we attempted to go appling (my word for apple-picking).  it was truly a sad attempt, as there were maybe a handful of apples at all in the whole orchard.  due to our lovely southern california drought, plus other socal factors, there were very few apples, and the few there were, were small and hardly worth looking at.  it was so sad, especially compared to last year, where we had plentiful amounts of macintosh, golden delicious, jonathan and pippin apples.  i was so ready to make homemade applesauce, apple butter, apple pie, apple everything.  the great part is i probably still will make all those things, but they won't be made from freshly picked organic apples.  maybe next year!
