a garden plot

this is our garden.  isn't it, um...beautiful?  yeah okay, so it's nothing but garbage, weeds and wire at the moment, but i guarantee that it will be something to behold by the time we leave it.

we had put our names on the apartment complex's garden plot waiting list about a year ago (yes, it took that long to get a garden plot) with high hopes.  i figured that within a month or two i would have a plot and be planting my future spring crops (this was in august 08'...although i seriously thought i had signed us up on that list about 6 months prior to that.  apparently i hadn't)...remember, i live in san diego.  it's not like we have a winter to interrupt our growing cycle.  it's small, if existent.  so finally after a long awaited year, stephen received the blessed email that we were assigned a plot.

after picking the girls up one day from school and decided to mosy on up to the garden plot and take a look.  i was hoping that someone before us had, perhaps, already planted a plum tree, with a nice row of zucchini and corn ready to pluck.  alas it was not so.  instead this is how we found it.  not kept up at all and hardly even breathed on.  from things we found in it on saturday, i might even go as far to say that within the last year no one has stepped foot in it.  so sad, but true.  that i had been impatiently awaiting my turn to have a garden, when really it had been waiting for me, even more impatiently, that whole time.  gosh!

all gloominess aside, i now have a garden, and i'm happy to say that we spent most of saturday up there as a family.  we weeded, watered, re-arranged and even planted a few things!  i'll post that next!

this is the entrance to our plot area.  beware!

That's so exciting! I want a garden so bad. Maybe next year you can harvest your own pumpkins!
