bizcochos

oh me, oh my, oh bizcochos!  these pictures bring me back.  back to the wonderful time i spent in uruguay serving a mission for my church.  it was the most amazing experience that i'd ever had in my life.  part of what made it so memorable for me, besides the things i taught and the people, was the interesting food i ate while there.  and although "interesting" isn't how i would label bizcochos, "devine" is.  sadly, these small and scrumptious treats are what helped my kilos increase on the scale.  i gained a little under twenty pounds in my hear and a half there.  but, gosh darn-it, i say it was worth it.  those things are just so good!

they are basically little croissant/rolls filled with a variety of things, ranging from dulce de leche (the real stuff) to dulce de membrillo to cheese.  from uruguay describes them pretty accurately and really makes me wish i could walk down to the panaderia (bakery) or bizcocheria right now and buy some!

*as a nice little p.s. to you all, here's a recipe to make your own dulce de leche.  tonight!!
